New to this edition Fully updated four-color illustrations and photography provide unparalleled visual understanding of weather phenomena. The popular "Cloud Chart" at the end of the text has been updated. This learning tool can be separated from the text and used wherever one chooses to observe the sky. A similar removable learning tool, "Guide to Optical Phenomena," is new to this edition and shows students different atmospheric optics like sundogs and sun pillars. The chapter on Climate Change has been thoroughly revised and is fully supported by learning tools in the form of animations and an online supplement. A collection of animations helps students experience the dynamics of weather. An icon in the text directs them to the Resource Center for accessing this exciting new learning tool.
Features Stories at the beginning of each chapter draw students naturally into the discussion, while in-chapter reviews help them master concepts while they study. Four types of end-of-chapter exercises provide opportunities for further review, as well as in-class discussion questions. "Focus" boxes expand on primary text material and help students understand meteorological observation methods, environmental issues, and more advanced topics. "Weather Watch" marginal boxes highlight interesting weather facts or astonishing events that may not be commonly known.
